The flight ticket refund is provided when a flight is canceled 14 days prior to departure and an alternative flight is not offered: the passenger is entitled to a compensation which goes from €250 to €600, depending on the route.

for instance, the amount of the refund is established as follows:

• for flights up to 1500 kilometres (for example: Rome to Paris), a refund of €250 is provided
• for flights up to 3500 kilometres (for example: Rome to Lisbon), a refund of €400 is provided
• For long flights of more than 3500 kilometers (for example: Rome to Beijing), a refund of €600 is provided

The compensation request can be submitted if the following requirements are fulfilled

• the airline is responsible for the cancellation of the flight;
• The passenger has checked in within the time allowed;
• The flight departed from the eu or landed in the EU (in the first case, the nationality of the airline does not matter; in the second case, it has to be an airline with legal residence in the EU)
• The flight was canceled within 24 months from the time of the request.

In certain cases, the airline that cancels the flight offers a travel voucher to the passenger to redeem within few months on one of its routes, but without giving any refunds.
