The refund for flight delay is provided when:
- The flight has a delay of at least 3 hours;
- the responsibility of the delay is attributable to the airline;
- the airline has legal residence in the EU
- the flight departed from the EU
- the flight landed in the EU
- It is not given to opportunity to reach the final destination boarding a different flight
for instance, the amount of the refund is established as follows:
- for flights up to 1500 kilometres (for example: Rome to Paris), a refund of €250 is provided
- for flights up to 3500 kilometres (for example: Rome to Lisbon), a refund of €400 is provided
- For long flights of more than 3500 kilometers (for example: Rome to Beijing), a refund of €600 is provided

The compensation request can be submitted if the following requirements are fulfilled
- the airline is responsible for the delay of the flight
- The passenger has checked in within the time allowed;
- The flight departed from the eu or landed in the EU (in the first case, the nationality of the airline does not matter; in the second case, it has to be an airline with legal residence in the EU)
- The delayed flight was scheduled within 18 months from the moment of the request.
By claiming a refund for a delayed flight with us, it is also possible to get a compensation for it.
if the passenger is offered to reach the final destination boarding another flight, he/she is still entitled to a monetary compensation of the 50% in the following cases:
- for any flight routes equal or lower than 1500 kilometres, with an effective arrival time delayed by less than 2 hours compared to the original flight schedule;
- for any intra community flight routes higher than 1500 kilometres and for any other flight routes between 1500 and 3500 kilometres, with an effective arrival time that doesn’t exceed 3 hours compared to the original flight schedule;
- For any flight routes that are not included in the previous cases and whose arrival time doesn’t exceed 4 hours compared to the original flight schedule;
in case the flight delay is higher than 5 hours, the passenger is entitled to opt out of the booked flight. The airline must compensate the flight ticket in full or, as an alternative, find an acceptable solution to reach the destination.
If the passenger no longer wants to use the flight ticket, the airline must also provide assistance offering a transfer from the airport to the point of departure of the passenger.
the refund for flight delay is not provided for the so-called “exceptional circumstances”, for which the airline is not responsible. These circumstances can happen in the following cases:
- exceptional airport closures.
- airspace closures;
- political and/or social instability;
- risk to the safety of the passengers and of the crew;
- birds or other animals in the aircraft engines;
- adverse weather conditions;
- strikes from airport or airline staff.
